In St Brigid’s NS, Ballysax, we have been using the MindUP programme since January of this year. All members of staff have been trained in the programme and it has been received with enthusiasm by the children in our classes.
MindUP is the signature program of The Goldie Hawn Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, created in response to the need to support the mental health and well being of children. Based firmly in neuroscience, MindUP gives children the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience and compassion.
MindUP has launched a MindUP for families page on their website, with free resources and downloads. Downloads include some very beneficial and simple practices for children and parents, including “Getting to know our amazing brain” (you might be surprised at how much you child knows about this already!), “Mindful awareness and breathing”, Developing relationships with perspective and empathy” and many more. It’s worth a look and might offer some calm in our present world. Give it a go!
